5 Tips on How to Take Care of Your Air Purifier

Air purifiers can help maintain indoor air quality in your home. Like all other parts of your home’s HVAC system, your air purifier also needs some care and maintenance. In today’s post, air conditioning installation company Superior Air shares tips on how to take care of your air purifier so it can keep taking care of you.

Clean the area around the air purifier — Dust, pet dander and other particulates can increase the workload on your air purifier and cause its filtration system to clog sooner. Be sure not to miss the areas around the air purifier when cleaning your home. This allows the air purifier to “focus” on the indoor air pollutants that you can’t catch.

Keep the grilles and panels clean — Inspect the grilles regularly and clean them as needed. This helps prevent particles from getting recirculated through your home. Cleaning instructions vary depending on the make and model, so make it a point to check your air purifier’s care and maintenance guide before using any cleaning products on it.

Keep an eye on the air filters — As with your air conditioning maintenance routine, you also need to replace the air filters in your air purifier. Clogged air filters can impede airflow within the purifier, which can decrease its efficiency while increasing its workload. Most types of air purifiers have indicator lights that tell you if it’s time to check and/or replace your air filters.

Clean the washable pre-filters — Pre-filters help prolong the life of the air filters in your air purifier by trapping larger particles, and can be washed like the air filters typically found in mini-split air conditioners. Make sure the washable filters are completely dry before putting them back to prevent bacteria from growing on them.

Plan your air purifier placement — You can increase the efficiency of your air purifier with the right placement. Ideally, air purifiers should be placed in the path of the room’s airflow (doorways and windows, away from corners) and where there’s a high concentration of pollutants or odors.
