Protecting Your HVAC System During Home Renovations

Air conditioning installation is a considerable expense, so you want to protect your current HVAC equipment as much as possible. Home remodeling projects can be bad for your HVAC unit because it’s exposed to more dirt and debris.  Dirt and dust can cause HVAC damage that’s expensive to repair, so it’s your job to protect it. Here’s how.

Avoid using your HVAC system. Turn off your HVAC system while the project is still ongoing. You don’t want it to suck in dirt, dust and debris from the job site, which can lead to costly damage.

Clean frequently. Don’t wait for the project to be finished before cleaning your home. Ask your contractor about how they plan to keep the work area clean. You can also do your part by vacuuming and wiping surfaces more often than normal.

Clean the HVAC filter. There’s more dirt and dust in your home than normal when there’s a home improvement project underway.
