How to Avoid Costly HVAC Breakdowns

A malfunctioning HVAC system is the last thing anyone wants to deal with in the middle of summer or winter. Fortunately, there are several ways to avoid HVAC breakdowns and expensive repairs. Superior Air, your trusted HVAC and air conditioning installation contractor, lists them below:

Make sure there’s enough clearance around your HVAC unit. As a general rule, there should be at least 12 inches of clearance on all sides of the outdoor condenser unit. If there’s not enough clearance space around it, warm air will be recirculated into your HVAC unit. Left unaddressed, this may cause the evaporator coil–the component responsible for removing heat from indoor air–to overheat.

Change the air filter every three months. Dirty air filters not only lower indoor air quality, they also create more airflow resistance. This in turn forces your HVAC system to work harder and consume more electricity as it circulates warm or cool air throughout your home. By routinely changing your HVAC system’s air filter, you reduce the strain on sensitive HVAC components and lower the risk of HVAC breakdowns.

Important note: If you have pets or allergies, you may need to replace your air filter more frequently.  Air filters should be replaced every six to eight weeks if you have pets, and every four weeks if you have allergies.

Have your HVAC system inspected at least once a year. It’s important to make sure your unit undergoes routine HVAC and air conditioning maintenance at least once a year. Through regular maintenance and inspections, technicians can fix underlying issues before they affect your HVAC system’s performance.

If you’re looking for HVAC technicians near you, here’s a vetting tip: the number of years they’ve been working in the industry should give you a good idea of their level of expertise.

Superior Air has been offering a wide range of professional HVAC services, including air conditioning repair, to the local community since 1994. To schedule an inspection, call us at (559) 734-2002 or fill out this form. We serve homeowners in Tulare as well as surrounding communities in CA.
