3 Warning Signs of Dirty Evaporator Coils

Your evaporator coil is an important part of your HVAC system. It absorbs heat from your living areas and transfers it somewhere else. However, your evaporator coil can also spell trouble for the entire system if air conditioning maintenance is neglected. If there’s dirt buildup inside your unit, this will make your evaporator coil dirty. If you aren’t sure whether or not your evaporator coil is dirty, you can rely on us here at Superior Air. Here are three warning signs for which you should be on the lookout.

Poor cooling. If your home doesn’t feel cool enough no matter how long the air conditioner has been running, this is one of the most noticeable signs that your evaporator coil is dirty. Its purpose is to keep heat out of your home, and a dirty evaporator coil won’t be able to keep as much heat away. Because of this, your home may still feel warm even after hours of running your AC. This can result in a hefty sum on your electric bill as well as damage to your HVAC system.

Frozen coil. When your evaporator coil has reached the point where it becomes frozen, your air conditioner can break down. This will occur if dirt accumulation restricts the amount of heat your evaporator coil can absorb. Condensation will then build up on the coil and the water will turn into ice, causing it to freeze. Eventually, your air conditioner will stop cooling your home’s air at all. You may be looking at a costly air conditioner repair or replacement if this happens.

Longer AC runtimes.
Your air conditioner runs in cycles to ensure your home reaches the desired temperatures indicated on your thermostat. If your evaporator coil is dirty, the cycles will last much longer and make your AC run longer.

Superior Air is here to help you with your air conditioning installation, maintenance, repair and replacement. Call us now at (559) 734-2002 or fill out our contact form for estimates and technical support. We’re looking forward to serving homeowners in Tulare, CA.
